Prosthetics & Mobility
For many amputees, receiving a prosthesis is an exciting milestone. It can represent progress, independence, and the opportunity to return to activities you enjoy.
However, every person’s journey is different.
Some amputees wear a prosthesis every day. Others wear one occasionally. Some discover that a prosthesis is not the best solution for their body, lifestyle, or medical needs.
All of these experiences are valid.
You May Experience
Mobility Is Personal. Using a wheelchair, crutches, a walker, a cane, or a prosthesis are all valid ways to move through the world.
-
Your residual limb will continue changing as it heals, requiring adjustments to maintain comfort and fit.
-
Swelling can fluctuate daily and affect how your prosthesis fits.
-
Learning new movement patterns takes time and practice.
-
Your body is adapting and using muscles different than before.
-
Pressure points and skin issues can occur and should be discussed with your prosthetist.
-
Progress is rarely linear.
The goal is not to meet someone else’s definition of success.
The goal is to find the combination of tools that helps you live the life you want to live.
