Meet Shelby
Shelby Denault
Founder & President, Together in Motion: Amputee Support Network
Shelby Denault is the co-founder and president of Together in Motion, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building connection, encouragement, and community for individuals navigating life after limb loss. Inspired by her own journey as an amputee, Shelby created Together in Motion to ensure that no one has to face the challenges of limb loss alone.
Shelby believes deeply in the power of connection and shared experience. After navigating the emotional and physical realities that come with amputation, she recognized how meaningful it can be to connect with others who truly understand the journey. That experience became the driving force behind Together in Motion and its mission to build supportive spaces for amputees and their families.
Shelby is married to her husband Justin and has two children, Jax and Knox. Shelby carries the weight of loss not only with amputation, but with loss. Her son Jax was born with a congenital heart defect 7 weeks early on February 6th, 2017. He was a fighter, but with his condition, building the strength to get to his first open heart surgery proved to be too much. Jax passed away in his dad’s arms on February 16th, 2017. Her son Knox is a healthy 7 year old who loves reading, math, and geography. He has a silly, kind, and wonderful heart that was definitely touched by his brother Jax before entering the world to meet us.
Outside of her nonprofit work, Shelby is a digital product manager who is passionate about building meaningful systems, communities, and initiatives that create real impact. Her professional experience in leadership, strategy, and technology helps shape the vision and growth of Together in Motion as the organization expands its programs and outreach.
Shelby is known by friends and family as someone who leads with heart, humor, and resilience. She has a natural ability to bring people together and create spaces where others feel seen, supported, and valued. Her passion for advocacy, community-building, and helping others find strength through adversity continues to guide the mission of Together in Motion.
Through Together in Motion, Shelby hopes to build a growing network of support where individuals living with limb loss can connect, share their stories, and move forward with confidence—together.
Why We Started Together in Motion
Together in Motion was inspired by friendship, service, and the belief that no one should have to face life’s hardest moments alone.
Shelby and Lacey first met through circumstance, but their friendship quickly became a choice—one rooted in shared values, mutual respect, and a deep commitment to helping others. What began as a small circle of supportive friends grew into a sisterhood of women devoted to service, including several who have served or are currently serving in the United States Army.
When Shelby began navigating life after limb loss, the strength of this community was a powerful reminder of how meaningful connection can be in life’s most difficult seasons. Together in Motion was created to offer that same sense of encouragement, understanding, and community to others walking a similar path.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: if either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”
-Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
